Red-wattled Lapwing

On one in every of the lawns within the Peradeniya botanical Garden close to metropolis we tend to stumbled on a beautiful Red-wattled plover Vanellus indicus. a part of the shorebird family, this bird is seen fairly unremarkably close to cities and in fields.

it's strikingly coloured with its black head, neck and breast, with white band on the aspect neck and red wattle (which provides it its name), white belly and tan back. we tend to used the optical lens to "get close" to the bird that was clearly distressed to own anyone walking close to it.
On nearer examination we tend to may see one tan and gray-speckled egg within the grass beneath the bird. Lapwings eat insects, seeds and tubers, and square measure sometimes found in pairs. (Peradeniya botanical Garden, close to Kandy)
